Amado Nervo is a Brazilian writer and journalist. He has had a lengthy career in journalism, writing for major Brazilian publications. Nervo was born in Laranjeiras, a neighborhood in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. His parents were from Italy
He lived with his family in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, when he was a child. In 1959, after working as a journalist for several years, Nervo published his first novel "A Arca da Aliança [The Ark of the Covenant]". In 1960, he moved to São Paulo to study at the University of São Paulo, where he completed his undergraduate degree in history and received a master's degree in education.
He became a reporter for one of Brazil's most influential newspapers Folha de S.Paulo and continued to work there until 1982. In 1985, Nervo moved to London where he worked as a foreign correspondent for two years before moving back to Rio de Janeiro where he has been based ever since.
